Penn Ponds lie hidden in the middle of the Royal Park.

The river crossing at Putney has an ancient history. The earliest reference being in the "Domesday Book", commissioned by William the Conqueror in 1085. 

This records that the "Putelei ferry" generated an annual income of 20 shillings (one pound sterling) to the Lord of the Manor.  

The current Putney Bridge was built in the 19th century, and later widened and constructed of Cornish Granite.

The 1763 survey (John Rocque) shows that the bridge was then curiously known as Fulham Bridge...
